Re the good news on the surprisingly low smog levels so far this summer in Salt Lake County ("Smog high, but experts are seeing good signs," Tribune, July 11), a factor that was not mentioned in the lower-than-expected levels was that Kennecott's open-pit mine has not been at full production for some time due to a giant spring landslide.
Could there be a connection between the better-than-expected air-quality levels and the idled mine?
Sure is worth exploring. Perhaps less mining is good for our health.
