A weekend power outage that left more than 1,000 Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake residents in the dark has been blamed on strong winds.

Rocky Mountain Power spokesman David Eskelsen said localized gusts that hit the region at 6:17 p.m. Sunday "caused two wires on a residential service line on 300 West near 2400 South to make contact, and one came down."

Rocky Mountain Power crews acted quickly to restore service to all but 250 of the 1,026 customers affected by the outage by 8:23 p.m. Sunday, though full service was not declared back until 2:22 a.m. Monday.

No injuries were reported as a result of the outage.
