Deer Valley Music Fest concert to feature world premieres from local composers

Each summer the Muir String Quartet collaborates with Joan Tower to offer two emerging, semi-professional string quartets and two promising composers an opportunity for extended professional development during the Deer Valley Music Festival in Park City.

Utah Symphony | Utah Opera will include the final performance of the three-week Emerging Quartets and Composers Program in its mainstream lineup of Deer Valley Music Festival Chamber Ensemble Series this summer. This concert will feature the Skyros and The Battery String Quartets performing world premieres of string quartets by local composers. Haruhito Miyagi's "Three Prominent Peaks for String Quartet" will be performed by The Battery String Quartet, and Devin Maxwell's "Bouquet Canyon, CA" will be presented by the Skyros String Quartet. The performance will be at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Park City on Thursday, August 1, at 8 p.m. Miyagi's "Three Prominent Peaks for String Quartet"­is a piece named in reference to three prominent mountains in Utah: Olympus, Timpanogos and Nebo.The Muir String Quartet will also hold String Quartet Masterclasses Saturday, July 20, from 4-6 p.m., and on Tuesday, July 30, from 1-3 p.m., at the Utah Conservatory in Park City. The public is invited to observe the Muir Quartet work with the two emerging quartets during these masterclasses; no tickets are required. The Utah Conservatory is located at 4593 Silver Springs Drive, behind the blue-roofed 7-11. Ticket prices are subject to change based on demand and will increase by $5 when purchased on the day of performance. Parking at Saint Mary's Catholic Church is limited, so carpooling and taking public transportation is strongly encouraged.
