Power outages hit both Salt Lake City and, on the other end of the state, St. George on Wednesday morning.

Rocky Mountain Power reported that a pole fire at 1520 S. 2925 East was to blame for an outage that left nearly 800 Salt Lake City residents without power as of 8 a.m., down from more than twice that number earlier Wednesday morning.

The cause of the pole fire was under investigation, but lightning had been reported in the area overnight.

The utility restored full service to the east Salt Lake City's 84108 ZIP code area by about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Rocky Mountain Power's website.

Meanwhile, a semi-trailer rig that backed into a pole in St. George at 8:07 a.m. was blamed for an outage affecting the southwestern Utah city's entire west side.

Washington County public safety dispatchers said the driver was unhurt.

St. George Municipal Power crews had restored service by early Wednesday afternoon.
