Grand County deputy out of jail after attempted murder arrest

A Grand County sheriff's deputy who was arrested last week on suspicion of attempted murder and various domestic violence offenses has been freed from jail under a court order prohibiting him from contacting two of his family members.

On Monday, the 7th District Court out of San Juan County ordered the release of Timothy John "T.J." Brewer from the San Juan County Jail. Brewer was booked into the facility after Moab police arrested him early Friday morning. Brewer did not have to post bond under the release.

Since his arrest, the investigation has been handed over to the Utah County Sheriff's Office.

The details of what Brewer is alleged to have done are unknown, as neither Moab police nor Utah County officials will comment on the case.

However, the court order releasing Brewer from jail states that among the conditions of release from jail, he is not allowed to have any contact with his wife or his father, Wesley "Corky" Brewer, who is the Moab fire chief.

The Moab Fire Department declined to comment on Corky Brewer's relationship to the case.

Also on Monday, Brewer's wife filed a request with the 7th District Court in Grand County for a protective order against him. Then, on Tuesday, the woman asked for the request to be dismissed, according to the court docket.

The reasons for the wife's request for a protective order and the subsequent withdrawal are unavailable because, under Utah law, documents filed in conjunction with protective orders are not public.
