Rodeo • The big bull is the Days of '47 Rodeo, which runs out of the shoot today in Salt Lake City. Ogden's rodeo rides this weekend, too. Firefighter benefit • Firefighters in Cedar City will hold a benefit and memorial for Joe Thurston, a Utah native who was one of the 19 firefighters killed June 30 in a blaze in Arizona. This event includes raffle, live music, food and more.

Film Festival • Well, more like a bad musical festival. The Bicknell International Film Festival, which specializes in B-movies, focuses on musicals this year. Tonight's opener is "Cannibal! Music • Classical music meets folk rock when the Georgia-based duo Indigo Girls performs with the Utah Symphony. Keith Lockhart, Utah Symphony music director from 1998 to 2009, will conduct the concert. He also will lead the orchestra's sold-out Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers concert tonight. Lockhart has been in Park City all week rehearsing for both shows and has enjoyed "being back in my old haunt," he said in an interview with The Salt Lake Tribune. Lockhart said he worked with Martin when he appeared with the Boston Pops. But it will be the conductor's first encounter with the Indigo Girls — Amy Ray and Emily Saliers. The duo, whose last studio project was 2011's "Beauty Queen Sister," are best remembered for their environmental activism as well as classic folk rock songs such as "Closer to Fine" and "Galileo." Ray also is a supporter of local radio station KRCL, which she immortalized in her solo song "SLC Radio."

The alternative country band Son Volt just released its seventh studio album ,"Honky Tonk," an exploration of the inspirations that Jay Farrar has used ever since he was a founding member of alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo. Uncle Tupelo, of course, splintered, with Farrar going on to create Son Volt while Jeff Tweedy went on to found Wilco. Son Volt has remained the most "country" of those two bands, and when you ponder who has one of the greater voices in popular music, look no further than Farrar's distinctive baritone.

Television • o, it's another season of Sister Wives (Sunday, 10 p.m., TLC), which begs the question — aren't their 15 minutes of fame up yet?

Apparently not. In the season premiere, we're going to hear all about how they're trying to regain the closeness they had before they fled Utah for Nevada. Ho, hum.

LOCAL SPORTS ON TV: League-leading Real Salt Lake hosts Sporting Kansas City in a Major League Soccer matchup (8 p.m. Saturday, Channel 4).

Movies • "The Conjuring" brings back old-fashioned scares, with a haunted house story that contains minimal gore but plenty of shocks and surprises. It stars Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga and Lili Taylor, and is definitely not for the faint of heart.
