NBA • Charlotte is the home of the Hornets once again.

The NBA unanimously approved Charlotte's nickname change from Bobcats to Hornets on Thursday at the league's Board of Governors meeting. The original Hornets built a supportive fan base in Charlotte from the time they entered the league in 1988 until they moved to New Orleans in 2002.

Boy dies after being hit by baseball

baseball • An 8-year-old eastern Indiana boy has died after a baseball hit him in the head and neck.

The Marion County Coroner's Office says Dylan Williams died of blunt force trauma Wednesday, one day after suffering the injury in Union City, about 75 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

Coroner's office manager Marchele Hall tells The Indianapolis Star an autopsy Thursday showed the injury occurred on the right side of the boy's head and neck.

The boy was hit by a ball that had been thrown during practice Tuesday evening. He was taken to a hospital in Winchester, then transferred to an Indianapolis hospital.

Wimbledon champ pulls out of event

Tennis • Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli withdrew from the Bank of the West Classic on Thursday because of a hamstring strain.

"During Wimbledon I developed a strain in my hamstring which has not healed over the past two weeks," said Bartoli, the 2009 tournament winner. "I have been receiving therapy and was optimistic that I would be able to participate. ... It is one of my favorite tournaments on the circuit. Unfortunately, the injury has not completely healed and I will be unable to participate."
