Biaggi's restaurant in The Gateway has closed.

A posted sign at the eatery said its lease "has come to an end" at the Salt Lake City retail center. Earlier, the Bloomington, Ill.-based chain sued its landlord, claiming the mall owner had let in a competitor, La Jolla Groves, that offers similar fare.

In its 3rd District lawsuit, Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano said when it signed up to lease mall space in 2003 the agreement guaranteed its exclusive right as the sole Italian restaurant allowed in the shopping center.

Biaggi's spokeswoman Amy Goddard said that given the dynamics of the market, "it didn't makes sense for us to renew our lease."

Mall officials said leases are confidential.
