Mmmm ... horse!

"Utah lawmakers discuss horse slaughterhouses" (Tribune, July 19) details the outcry from ethical groups over the idea of slaughtering horses to eat. I myself was a ravenous carnivore until six years ago, whereupon I became a vegetarian. This was not for the health benefits or due to ethical concerns. I simply did not enjoy the taste of meat.

That said, I believe that if we raise the horses (as we raise cattle, chickens, hogs and other animals), the least we can do is utilize them. If they're just taking up space, time, money and other resources, why not slaughter them for food and save our farmers some trouble?

Who knows? You might even like how they taste.
