A child playing with a lighter set an Ogden house on fire Saturday morning.

The fire caused about $40,000 in damage to a home located at 268 36th Street, according to the Ogden Fire Department. Crews arrived at the blaze about 10:50 a.m. and discovered that the occupants of the home — two adults and four children — were already safe outside.

The fire reportedly began in the basement when a young child was playing with a lighter.

Firefighters had the blaze out within 10 minutes, but the damage was still significant enough to displace the entire family.

They are staying with relatives and being assisted by the Utah Red Cross.

The fire did not cause any injuries. A total of 22 fire fighters from Ogden, Roy Riverdale and South Ogden assisted.
