Carbon County authorities have recovered the body of a 43-year-old Wellington man who apparently committed suicide by driving his vehicle off a 300-foot cliff.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Tom Stefanoff said the man's family on Thursday discovered the wreckage of a 1995 Jeep Wrangler at the bottom of a cliff in the Mounds area, which is 3 to 4 miles east of Wellington.

Authorities then retrieved the man's body and removed the wreckage.

Stefanoff said authorities don't know when the man crashed, but said he had been reported missing two days prior to discovery of the wreckage.

He said it appears the man intentionally drove off the cliff, and accessed the location by driving along some dirt roadways off of State Road 6.

The man's body was taken to the state Medical Examiners Office.
