One of Tracy Aviary's flamingo chicks died during its second week in the world.

Little Red developed a lung infection and died Monday, the aviary reported Monday night.

The chick was one of three Chilean flamingos hatched in incubation last week and re-introduced to the flock of 20 living at Liberty Park.

"We are all very saddened by this loss, but despite our best efforts we do not always win the battles nature places in front of us," aviary staff wrote in a press statement.

The other two chicks are thriving, and another egg is close to hatching, according to the press statement.
