Utah forecast: A cooler, wetter weekend ahead

Heat in retreat • Triple digits give way to 80s, low-90s in northern Utah.

Northern Utah's weekend forecast called for a cooling trend as moist air and cloud cover moved into the region, dropping temperatures from the triple digits into the upper 80s and low 90s.

Along with the climatological shift expected ahead for the Wasatch Front was the potential for increasing thunderstorms and rain.

Even Utah's Dixie was expected to see the thermometer retreat markedly through the weekend. As isolated showers and thunderstorms continued, highs that topped 100 degrees on Friday were expected to drop into the low 80s and 90s on Saturday throughout southern Utah.

The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook extending through the weekend for the western two-thirds of the state, warning that increasing moisture could bring flash floods and mudslides.

By Friday evening, the weather service had reported heavy rain and flooding as deep as three feet between Hurricane and Hildale.

Forecasters issued a flash flood warning for south central Washington County that was in effect through the night Friday.

The Utah Division of Air Quality rated the entire state as "Green," or at healthy breathability throughout the weekend.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website noted that only sage at "moderate," showed as elevated on its pollen index.

Salt Lake City looked for a high temperature of 90 on Saturday, down from Friday's 101 degrees; Ogden expected 86 and 97 degrees, respectively; Provo 88 and 99; Logan 89 and 97; Wendover 86 and 96; Duchesne 82 and 90; Cedar City 82 and 91; St. George 94 and 101; and Moab 91 and 99 degrees.
