New York • The New York Yankees have acquired Alfonso Soriano in a trade with the Chicago Cubs on Friday, returning the seven-time All-Star to the team where he began his career.

The Cubs received minor league right-hander Corey Black and cash from New York.

Soriano was listed in the Yankees' lineup that was posted in their clubhouse two hours ahead of gametime — before the trade was announced on the team's website Friday.

Soriano is batting cleanup and playing left field in Friday night's game against Tampa Bay.
