BYU basketball to play at Stanford on Nov. 11 in ESPN 24-hour Tip-Off Marathon

BYU is probably a couple of weeks away from releasing its 2013-14 men's basketball schedule, but on Monday Cougar hoops fans learned another opponent on the school's upcoming docket. BYU will play at Stanford on Nov. 11, part of ESPN's 24-hour Tip-Off Marathon. According to a Stanford news release, the game will be played three days after Stanford hosts Bucknell in its season opener. The BYU-Stanford game will be played at Maples Pavilion on Stanford's campus in Palo Alto. It will be BYU's first game at Maples since Jan. 4, 1969. The night before, BYU defeated Stanford 95-89 in the first game ever played at the facility.

With the Stanford announcement, BYU's nonconference schedule is slowly taking shape. The Cougars will open the season at home against Weber State.

They will meet Texas on Nov. 25 in the opening round of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City. The next night, they will face either DePaul or Wichita State.

As mentioned in a previous blog, the Cougars will also host Iowa State of the Big 12 in the Marriott Center, and meet Utah State at Energy Solutions Arena in Salt Lake City.

They will meet UMass in Springfield, Mass., and will also play at Utah (second Saturday in December) and Oregon.

The BYU vs. Stanford news broke Monday just hours after the Cougar coaching staff received some bad news. Roy High's Brekkott Chapman, the top uncommitted senior in the state of Utah, announced that he has committed to play for the University of Utah.

Chapman had narrowed his choices in recent days to BYU, Utah and UCLA, although it was unclear whether an offer made by the previous UCLA coaching staff still applied.

It is a big blow to BYU's recruiting, because Chapman is a top-100 player in the country on almost every top recruiting website.
