Flagstaff, Ariz. • A relative of a Thai couple who were fatally struck by lightning in northern Arizona says the two were on their honeymoon at the time.

Aram Kawewong and Ratchaya Tantranon were killed July 23 by a bolt of lightning at a scenic overlook in Fredonia.

A cousin of Kawewong — Jeralynn Kozak — told The Arizona Republic that the couple were married July 10 and were near the Grand Canyon as part of a West Coast tour for their honeymoon.

Coconino County authorities said the couple was from Chiang-Mai in northern Thailand and were both 20. But Kozak says Kawewong was 30 and his wife was around 26.

She says the couple's remains are still in Coconino County awaiting cremation and they'll be sent back to Thailand for burial.
