St. George shooting deaths the result of murder-suicide, police say

St. George police confirmed Wednesday that the shooting deaths of two people found inside a home on Monday were the result of a murder suicide.

Police had earlier identified the victims as 60-year-old Paul Lee Day and his wife, 47-year-old Mary Ann Day.

On Wednesday, police said that "based on the facts and evidence that have been gathered so far, it appears to have been a murder suicide with Mary [Day] being the victim."

Police added that the case was still under investigation.

The two were found inside a residence near 2000 East and 200 South about 9:10 a.m. Monday.

Neighbors said they were stunned at the news of the Days' deaths, telling the StGeorgeUtah.com news site that the couple were "salt of the earth people."

Neighbor Tim Gee said he often saw the Days walking hand-in-hand and that they were pleasant, friendly and always willing to help with community projects.
