Civics Central: Taylorsville and West Point consider tax increases, Tooele County discusses wind energy ordinance

Here's your weekly roundup of what local city councils, school boards and other government entities are tackling during regularly scheduled meetings. Government agencies have until 24 hours before a meeting to post their agendas, so check back as this schedule will be updated. All meetings are open to the public, and citizens are welcome to voice their opinions during designated times. If you do wish to speak at a particular meeting, you may need to sign up in advance.

Centerville City Council • Will hold a public hearing on a proposed culinary water impact fee facilities plan; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 7 p.m., 250 N. Main St., Centerville. View the Centerville agenda.

Cottonwood Heights City Council • Will hold a work session to hear presentations on exotic pet ownership, Salt Lake County Council's hearing on the Tavaci rezone, the city's drug and prescription drug program, and the vote-by-mail primary election; Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m., exotic pet presentation in suite 300, remaining items move to Suite 250, City Offices, 1265 E. Farmington City Council • Will hold a public hearing on the schematic plan for Kestrel Bay Estates PUD Subdivision; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 7 p.m., 160 S. Main, Farmington. View the Farmington agenda.

Fruit Heights City Council • Will award a contract for curbside recycling collection; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 7 p.m., 910 S. Mountain Road, Fruit Heights. View the Fruit Heights agenda.

Holladay RDA and City Council • Acting as the Redevelopment Agency (RDA) council members will take a field trip to the Village Center at 5 p.m. and then discuss it along with an update on Millrock's site plan and development agreement, then at 6:30 the council will a hold work session to discuss mobile food trucks, landscaping, a proposed annexation study, bus benches and more; Thursday, Aug. 8, Mount Olympus room of City Hall, 4580 S. 2300 East, Holladay. Holladay Planning Commission • Will consider regulations for building on steeper slopes, also a 24-unit single-family subdivision on two acres at 5105 S. 1300 East, and site plan amendments to the Holladay Village Square development; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 6 p.m., Municipal Center, 4580 S. 2300 East, Holladay. Murray City Council • Will consider making changes to the Personnel Advisory Board and also amending personnel policies and regulations; Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m., in Council Chambers, City Center at 5025 S. State St., Murray. View the Murray agenda.

North Salt Lake City Council • Will consider residents' requests related to Deer Hollow Park and then vote on park improvements; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 7 p.m., 10 E. Center St., North Salt Lake. View the North Salt Lake agenda.

Ogden City Council and RDA • The Council will hold a work session at 5:30 p.m. to hear a pickleball presentation, to interview Plante & Moran PLLC as a potential consultant for an IT Management and Operations Study, to discuss funding for airport art, and to discuss proposed sewer, water and storm sewer bonds. Provo Municipal Council • Will vote on adoption of a fiscal 2014 budget; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 6 p.m. Municipal Council Chambers, 351 W. Center St., Provo. View the Provo agenda.

Salt Lake County Council • Will consider developer Terry Diehl's request to change the zoning for his Tavaci development, at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon, from single-family residential to multipurpose, with the potential for commercial buildings 100 feet tall; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 4 p.m. County Council chambers, first floor, North Building, County Government Center, 2001 S. Sandy City Council • Will hold a public hearing on a proposal to add "solid waste conversion facility" and "waste transfer stations" as new allowed land uses within the Industrial Zone; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 5:15 p.m., 10000 Centennial Pkwy., Sandy. South Jordan City Council • Will receive public comment and consider an ordinance prohibiting enacting any resolutions designating any property in the city as village mixed use or village mixed residential, will also consider a resolution supporting Congress approval of the Marketplace Fairness Act requiring collection of sales tax on Internet sales; Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m. in Council chambers, City Hall, 1600 W. Sunset City Council • Will discuss and possibly take action on Resolution 2013-11 detailing approval of an assistant fire chief position in the Sunset City Fire Department; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 6:30 p.m., 200 W. 1300 North, Sunset. View the Sunset agenda.

Taylorsville City Council • Is considering an approximate 29 percent increase on the city portion of the property tax and will hold a truth-in-taxation hearing; Wednesday, Aug. 7, 6 p.m., 2600 W. Tooele City Council • Will hear a report from the city's domestic violence victim advocate; Wednesday, Aug. 7, 7 p.m., 90 S. Main St., Tooele. View the Tooele agenda.

Tooele County Commission • Will consider enacting an ordinance for large wind energy systems and wind turbine farms; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 7 p.m., Room 310, 47 S. Main St., Tooele. View the Tooele County Commission agenda.

Utah County Commission • Will consider adoption of amendments to the land use ordinance to require waterway management and trail easements for large scale developments; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 9 a.m., 100 E. Center St., Provo. View the Utah County agenda.

Weber County Commission • Will consider approving a contract with Summit Mountain Holding Group, LLC for deposit of cash to ensure completion of developer improvements, will also consider resolution to designate special assessment area to finance road, sewer and other improvements on Powder Mountain, will also consider expanding the county library's board of directors from seven to nine members; Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Commission Chambers of the Weber Center at 2380 Washington Blvd., Ogden. West Jordan Planning Commission • Will receive public comment on several items, including keeping pigs at 7402 S. 5490 West, and approval of a conditional use permit to allow a group home for disabled teens at 8807 S. West Point City • Is accepting applications until 5 p.m. Aug. 9 from residents interested in appointment to the City Council seat that opened with the recent resignation of member Roger Woodward. Council members will interview applicants on Aug. 20. View the vacancy notice.

West Point City Council • Will hold a hearing on a proposed 6.5 percent increase on the city portion of the property tax; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 7 p.m., 3200 W. 300 North, West Point. View the West Point agenda.

West Valley City Council • Has canceled its Tuesday, Aug. 6, meeting so council members can attend National Night Out Against Crime events.
