Man charged in fatal shooting outside Salt Lake City convenience store

A 20-year-old man has been charged with the gang-related killing of another man outside of a Salt Lake City Maverik store in April.

Vilisoni Tuino Angilau, of Salt Lake City, was charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with first-degree felony murder in the shooting death of 19-year-old Sione Fakatoufifita. Angilau also was charged with one count of second-degree felony obstruction of justice.

Angilau allegedly shot Fakatoufifita multiple times at 1680 S. Redwood Road about 1:15 a.m. on April 13. Fakatoufifita's body was found in the north parking lot of the convenience store.

Police allege Angilau killed Fakatoufifita because they were members of rival gangs.

After the shooting, Angilau allegedly fled and discarded a hooded sweatshirt and a firearm in the nearby Jordan River surplus canal. Both items were later recovered by police and the firearm was matched to the bullets that killed Fakatoufifita, according to charging documents.

Angilau was arrested last week at his work without incident.

Fakatoufifita was planning to marry in May.

His fiance, 18-year-old Morgan Maree Janet Holst, has been charged with second-degree felony obstructing justice for allegedly lying to police during the murder investigation.

Holst changed her version of events several times before admitting she lied to police, according to charging documents.

In her final version, she said she and Fakatoufifita were at a Glendale park when they were jumped by some "Glendale boys," a reference to rival gang members, according to charges. A fight broke out and Fakatoufifita fled, with the alleged attackers in pursuit.

Holst also admitted talking to some of the rival gang members earlier that night, adding that she saw one of them with a pistol and knew they were going to hurt Fakatoufifita, charges state.
