Police are searching for a man accused of kidnapping and sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy in Ogden.
Ryan Schaffer, 33, had not been arrested as of Thursday afternoon, nearly a month after he allegedly kidnapped the boy at knife-point as the boy was exiting a FrontRunner train at the station at 2393 Wall Ave.
The boy told police that Schaffer kept him for three days starting July 3, and took him "all over the city of Ogden," according to kidnapping and sex charges filed Wednesday in 2nd District Court.
Schaffer allegedly took the boy to a home near 600 32nd Street and introduced him to the residents as his cousin. A resident at the home confirmed the victim's account and said she took pictures of Schaffer and the victim "together at the playground playing," charges state.
The victim said Schaffer forced him to perform sodomy twice, once at gunpoint, and that Schaffer also sodomized him once at knife-point.
The victim escaped when Schaffer left him unattended "for a brief moment," police wrote in a statement issued Thursday.
Police would not say whether the boy previously knew Schaffer or how he identified had Schaffer as the suspect. They also would not say whether anyone reported the teen missing during the three days he said he was with Schaffer.
There are two warrants for Schaffer's arrest: One in connection to the boy's allegations and one issued Tuesday pursuant to allegations that Schaffer failed to register as a sex offender at his North Ogden address.
Police are seeking help from the public and from other police agencies along the Wasatch Front in the search for Schaffer. Anyone with information may call Ogden police at 801-395-8221.
Schaffer is described as a 6-foot, 150-pound Caucasian, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Schaffer is charged with first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping and three counts of third-degree felony unlawful sexual activity with a minor. Weber County Attorney Dee Smith could not be reached for comment on the charges.
In 2007, Schaffer pleaded guilty to two second-degree felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
He pleaded guilty in 2012 to misdemeanor charges of attempted sex offender registration and giving false information to a peace officer.
