Real Salt Lake midfielder Yordany Alvarez has been suspended for three games for his tackle on New York's Tim Cahill last weekend.

Alvarez was shown a yellow card for the first-half tackle, but Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee deemed the challenge to be more serious, and made the multi-game suspension official Friday morning.

Cahill, who will miss at least three weeks with injury, called Alvarez's challenge "the worst tackle of my career."
