Kelsey Chugg will be on hand to defend her title as the 107th Women's Utah State Amateur Championship begins Monday at the Wasatch Mountain Lake Course.

Chugg will wait while 31 players, including three former champions, play a two-day, 36-hole qualifying tournament to fill the remaining 15 match play spots, which begins Wednesday. The quarterfinals will be held Wednesday afternoon.

The semifinals are scheduled for Thursday morning with the championship match set for Thursday afternoon.

Chugg won last year in Logan with a 3 and 2 win over Naomi Soifua, who is once again the youngest player in the tourney at age 14. Last year, Soifua was the youngest finalist in the history of either the women's or men's state championship.

Former Julie McMullin, Sue Billek Nyhus, and Melanie Warren Christensen are also entered. McMullin won the championship two years ago, while Nyhus won it in 1985 and 1999. Melanie Warren Christensen claimed the trophy in 1993.
