Utah forecast: Fire Weather Watch in place ..

The western third of Utah was under a Fire Weather Watch through Saturday night due to hot, extremely dry and windy weather.

The National Weather Service noted temperatures Friday and Saturday were expected to be in the mid-90s to triple digits throughout the state — a forecast that mirrored that for Thursday.

Particularly at risk for potentially explosive wildfires during the next few days were the parched reaches of the Salt Lake Desert, the high deserts of west-central Utah and the western stretches of southwestern Utah's Color Country. Winds of 10-20 mph, with gusts of 35 mph, were expected, along with humidity as low as 8 percent.

No rain was on the horizon anywhere in the state as the weekend approaches.

Air quality was graded "Green," or healthy as the weekend approached, and the Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website's pollen index rated chenopods at "high" and mold "moderate."

Salt Lake City's high temperature Friday was pegged at 94, down 1 degree from Thursday's forecast; Ogden looked for 90 and 91 degrees, respectively; Provo 91 and 92; Logan 90 and 91; Wendover 91 and 93; Duchesne 82 and 81; Cedar City 86s; St. George 98s; and Moab 92 and 89 degrees.
