Kassi Van Vliet, 24, had been married to Tommy, for less than a year when they found out she was expecting.
A few months later, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Local band Mideau will donate all proceeds from a recently-recorded single to help Kassie and Tommy with their medical bills. The song "There, There" will be available as a name-your-price download on mideau.bandcamp.com.From the press release:
Kassi and Tommy met in a Spanish class at Brigham Young University. They started dating, fell in love and married in December 2011. The following October they found out that they were expecting and were ecstatic to start a family together. In March 2013, after experiencing a seizure, Kassi was diagnosed with a grade 3/4 Astrocytoma brain tumor. Within hours of diagnosis, Kassi's head was shaved and she underwent brain surgery to remove the tumor. The surgery was successful, but no further treatment was administered because Kassi was in her second trimester of pregnancy. Avery Jo was born on June 1, 2013. Kassi is now undergoing radiation and chemotherapy treatments.Libbie Linton and Spencer Harrison of Mideau wanted to help. They decided to donate a song from their new album as a way to support the Van Vliet family and to perpetuate a cycle of giving they experienced with their recently successfully-funded Kickstarter campaign last January. "After the overwhelming support we received this year, we want to give back," Linton said in a press release. "We have an opportunity to bring our community together and bolster up the Van Vliet family during this tough time. We hope people will join us in helping Kassi and Tommy." Mideau wrote and recorded their forthcoming album over the last year. They will release their debut album on Friday, September 13 at Velour Live Music Gallery in Provo.
