A toddler died Thursday after Provo police say that a father accidentally drove a trailer over her.
The 39-year-old man was excavating on the side of his house on the 300 South block of 400 East, driving a SUV and pulling a trailer heavy with concrete and rocks. He drove forward and felt a couple bumps, but did not think much of them at first since he had felt bumps before, said Lt. Mathew Siufanua.
But his wife came out and found the 18-month-old girl, who was not immediately identified, Siufanua added.
The father called 911 at 8:17 p.m. and told them that he believed he ran over his child, Siufanua said. Emergency responders arrived and found the girl had died.
The police traffic-accident team was working on the scene trying to figure out exactly what happened, Siufanua said.
