Candidate diversity

Local elections are my favorites because of the diverse backgrounds of the candidates. Most of the individuals who run for national office are lawyers; however, in our local election this year we have a variety of backgrounds.

In the Salt Lake City Council races we have Brad Bartholomew whose background is disaster relief; Erin Mendenhall's background is air quality; and Deb Henry's background is in engineering with an emphasis on transportation. In West Valley we have Don Christensen who is an educator.

These candidates have a strong sense of community. There is a sense of oneness with the areas they want to represent. This is a very important criterion in municipal elections. I believe that these candidates will improve the quality of local government.
