Did you know the phrase "dog days of summer" dates back all the way to ancient Greece?

It's true, and apparently means that since time immemorial people have been experiencing the kind of warm, lazy days Utahns will have this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, the Wasatch Front will see highs in the mid 90s Saturday with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temperatures will hold steady through the weekend, but should start inching up during the work week.

In southern Utah, highs should reach the upper 90s Saturday, peak around 100 degrees Sunday, then hover in that same range during the week.

The hot, dry weather prompted a red flag warning for the Salt Lake and West deserts Saturday afternoon and evening.

Most of the state should have "green" air quality through Monday, according to the Utah Division of Air Quality.

Salt Lake City expected a high of 95 degrees Saturday and 96 degrees Sunday; Provo expected 90 and 93, respectively; Ogden 90 and 92; Logan 90 and 92; Wendover 94 and 92; Duchesne 82 and 85; Cedar City 86 and 88; St. George 99 and 100; and Moab 91 and 92; Park City 79 and 82 degrees.
