An unspecified, pre-existing medical condition is believed to have caused the death of a Magna teenager who fell unconscious from an all-terrain vehicle over the weekend.
John Gleason, spokesman for the Utah Department of Transportation, said that Nick Black, 16, was riding the ATV with his father, Jack, on Saturday in a UDOT parking lot in West Valley City. As the father made a turn, the boy slumped and fell out, striking the pavement with his head.
However, Gleason said on Monday that it appeared it was the boy's medical condition which he declined to further detail citing privacy concerns that claimed the youth's life, not the fall.
Black was rushed by helicopter to University Hospital in Salt Lake City where he was later pronounced dead.
"This has just devastated the family," Gleason said.
The accident remained under investigation by the West Valley City Police Department.
