Re "Critics hoping to oust Sim Gill after Willard shooting announcement," Tribune, Aug. 12.

In response to Salt Lake Count District Attorney Sim Gill's finding that the use of deadly force was not justified in the fatal shooting of Danielle Willard by West Valley City police officers last year, supporters of the officers have leveled attacks against Mr. Gill, saying he has a record of "letting criminals off" and suggesting "Sim is a cop hater."

Upon reading of those attacks against District Attorney Gill, I was reminded of the old legal folk saying, "If the facts are against you, argue the law. If the law is against you, argue the facts. If both the facts and the law are against you, attack your opponent."
