As a former high school principal, I was shocked to read that the Granger High School principal took the school's registration receipts ($14,000) home after the workday, left them in his car and a thief stole the money.
One of the key traits of a good principal is always using good judgment. I dread to think what my district would have done to me. The least would have been a suspension without pay and reimbursement of the stolen funds. Follow the district policy and deposit the money in the bank the same day.
I don't know how the principal recovers from this fiasco. Forgiveness is big in Utah, but judgment and good common sense are also very important.
