Gill owed an apology

Chad Bennion's comments in the Aug. 12 Tribune article, "Critics hoping to oust Sim Gill after Willard shooting announcement" concerning Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill are appalling and Mr. Bennion owes him an immediate public apology. Suggesting Mr. Gill's ethnicity and upbringing influenced the outcome of the investigations is abhorrent.

I don't remember Bennion commenting on the former or current attorney general, who are a complete embarrassment to their office and the state. If Bennion is concerned with ethics, he should spend some time trying to address behavior of our current and past Attorney General. Let's hope the Republican candidate Bennion wants to run against Gill doesn't have the same moral compass as the two most recent state attorney generals.

I have spent the better part of the last 20 years pushing for higher ethical standards at all levels of government in Utah. I have rarely met anyone who is more qualified or reputable than District Attorney Sim Gill. We owe him a great deal of thanks for his great work and integrity at a time when there is such a loss of trust in government.
