Salt Lake City investigators seeking to question man about early morning blaze

Salt Lake City fire investigators are searching for a homeless man for questioning in connection with an early morning two-alarm house fire.

Salt Lake City fire spokesman Jasen Asay said witnesses reported seeing the man, who is known by neighbors as a transient, running away from a garage near 150 North Laxon (915 West) around the same time it caught fire.

Asay said the fire, which started about 7:30 a.m., quickly spread from the garage to a second, neighboring garage and to a nearby home.

Four people were inside the home at the time, and firefighters had to evacuate them, Asay said.

The blaze also knocked down a live power line on the roof of one of the garages, making the blaze more dangerous for firefighters, Asay said.

One firefighter was treated at the scene for a hand injury.

Asay said firefighters were still trying to determine the amount of damage and the cause. They would like to question the man to see if he can provide information on the possible cause.
