A 30-year-old Vernal woman is in trouble with police after she allegedly held fundraisers for her 4-year-old daughter suffering from cancer.
The problem? Vernal police say the little girl wasn't sick.
Police said they launched the investigation in July after hearing that the woman was soliciting donations for her child, who she said was suffering from leukemia.
The child's father, however, told police he didn't know his daughter had been diagnosed with cancer or was receiving treatment for it. Police said their investigation revealed the child did not have cancer.
In all, police said the woman raised more than $3,000 before she was arrested.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of fraud, a third-degree felony.
