Prep football two-a-days: Logan

Logan High has been a quarterback factory over the years.

Riley Nelson set records before going on to play at Utah State and later BYU. Jeff Manning wears Aggie blue now. D.J. Nelson led the Grizzlies to a state championship in 2011.

And Luke Falk aired it out, passing for more than 3,600 yards and 36 scores last season.

Logan will rely on an unproven arm — but a familiar name — this season.

Chase Nelson, the younger brother of Riley and D.J., will move from defense to take the reins of the high-powered Logan offense.

"He's had no real reps the last two years," Grizzlies coach Mike Favero said. "He has little or no experience. But from an athletic standpoint, he has a very high ceiling."

Favero also will be changing sides of the ball this year.

The coach has taken over his team's defense, making way for Chase's older brother Riley, the most productive quarterback Logan ever has had, to run the team's offense.

"Sometimes we ask players to change positions," Favero said. "This year we asked the head coach because it was best for our program."

The Grizzlies' D will be anchored by defensive end Sam Bennion, a 6-foot-5 tackling machine who has committed to play at Colorado. Bennion will get plenty of help from inside linebacker Jaden Connor. —
