Cedar City police arrested an armed motorcyclist after officers say he shot another motorcyclist while leading police on a chase.

About 5:40 p.m. Thursday, an officer tried to pull the suspect over for a moving violation, but the 55-year-old man turned around and took off in the opposite direction, according to a news release from the Cedar City Police Department.

The officer pursued him north on Main Street. The suspect then drew a gun and shot another motorcyclist, a 21-year-old man who was also going north, several times, the release adds. The victim went off the road and crashed.

The suspect then collided with a westbound vehicle at the Center Street intersection — both he and people in the vehicle suffered only minor injuries, according to the release.

Police have not identified the victim yet. He was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in serious condition. The suspect, meanwhile, is being treated at Valley View Medical Center.
