Nighttime vigil planned for missing Tooele woman

Coworkers of a Tooele woman who has been missing for more than two weeks will hold a vigil Sunday in support of Jane Ashby and her family.

Ashby disappeared on July 31 after telling her family that she was going to a meeting for work. In reality, there was no such meeting, and now she and her vehicle have not been seen since.

Tooele police and Ashby's family have combed various canyons and campgrounds in Salt Lake and Utah counties, where Ashby was known to frequent, but have so far turned up nothing.

"We haven't had any leads or anything," said Ashby's daughter, Michelle Gray. "The police are really baffled about it."

Jane's coworkers at Utah Farm Bureau Federation will hold a candlelight vigil on Sunday. The gathering will start at 8 p.m. in the Farm Bureau's Sandy location, 9865 S. State Street. People who wish to show their support are encouraged to bring candles, balloons and banners.

Police said that Ashby's purchasing history on her credit card showed that she bought some chemicals that can give off deadly fumes, which has exacerbated the family's fear that she may have sought to kill herself. Gray said in a previous interview that her mother was depressed after the passing of her husband in December.

Ashby is described as having brown hair and brown eyes, is about 5-foot-2 and 150 pounds. Her red Ford Escape has the Utah license plate number B338RG.
