WSU women favored to win BSC cross country championship

Big Sky Conference coaches picked the Weber State women's cross country team to win its third straight league title in 2013, while the Northern Arizona men were favorites to win its championship.

The Southern Utah men were picked second, followed by the WSU men's team.

Led by All-American Amber Henry, who returns for her senior year, the Wildcat women's team has captured the conference title in each of the past two seasons.

In 2012 WSU also won the NCAA Mountain Region title and finished 17th at the NCAA Championships.

Weber State received nine first place votes in the polls and totaled 118 points. Northern Arizona was second with 108 points, Southern Utah was third, Montana State fourth and Idaho State fifth in the poll.

On the men's side Northern Arizona was a unanimous choice, receiving all 11 first-place votes for 121 points. The Lumberjacks have won the last six Big Sky titles.

Southern Utah was picked second with 100 points, just one point ahead of Weber State, as the Wildcats totaled 99 points in the poll.

WSU will be the host site for the NCAA Mountain Region Championships, Nov. 15 at Schneiter's Riverside Golf Course in Riverdale.

The 2013 NCAA Championships will be held Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
