NFL notes: Backups carry Seahawks to victory

Christine Michael ran for 97 yards and Stephen Williams snatched a ball from cornerback Loyce Means in the end zone for a 42-yard touchdown catch in the Seattle Seahawks' 17-10 preseason victory over the Green Bay Packers on Friday night in Green Bay, Wis.

Michael added a 43-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for the Seahawks (3-0), who stayed unbeaten but didn't look like the juggernaut that steamrolled over Denver and San Diego the previous two weeks.

Vince Young, vying for the backup quarterback job behind Aaron Rodgers, was 6 of 7 passing for 41 yards and the only touchdown — a 1-yard pass to Jonathan Amosa — on the night for Green Bay (1-2).

Texans • Houston coach Gary Kubiak says the NFL has upheld defensive end Antonio Smith's three-game suspension. Smith was suspended Wednesday for the last two preseason games and Houston's season opener for hitting Miami guard Richie Incognito with the Dolphins player's helmet. Smith appealed the suspension, but his appeal was denied Friday.

Jets • Veteran wide receiver Santonio Holmes was moved to New York's active roster from the physically unable to perform list, a promising sign that he could be ready for the start of the regular season. Holmes has been sidelined since last September with a seriously injured left foot.

Steelers • Pittsburgh bolstered its injury-plagued backfield, acquiring running back Felix Jones from Philadelphia for linebacker Adrian Robinson. The 26-year-old Jones gives the Steelers needed depth at running back. Rookie Le'Veon Bell is out indefinitely with a sprained right foot. Isaac Redman is dealing with a nerve injury and return specialist LaRod Stephens-Howling sat out last Monday's preseason game against Washington with a sprained knee. —
