Television • Real Salt Lake will be on national TV on Friday night, and a big TV star will be in attendance. RSL will be fighting to maintain its lead in Major League Soccer, and "Modern Family" star/part-time Utahn Ty Burrell will be there for the coin toss.(This is a huge game, by the way, and RSL could REALLY use a win.

Local sports on TV • BYU kicks off its football season in Virginia against the Cavaliers (Saturday, 1:30 p.m., ESPNU).

Rose Exposed •The six performing arts companies that call the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center home will offer a celebration of dance, theater and music tonight and Saturday.

When • Friday, 6- 10 p.m., a block party with food trucks, libations, live music and prizes with a variety show at 7 p.m.; Saturday, free classes and performances, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival • Lena Prima and Macy Gray (with David Murray) are just two of the stars of this annual festival, which includes a day of clinics at the University of Utah. Other performers include Jazz Voices of Poetry, the Ambassadors, Orquesta Latino, the Wasatch Jazz Project, the Vinnie Falcone All-Stars, and the Salt Lake Jazz Orchestra.

Movies • Actress Lake Bell won the top award for screenwriting at this year's Sundance Film Festival for "In a World…," a smartly funny comedy about a Hollywood vocal coach (played by Bell, who also directed) aiming to break the glass ceiling in the movie-trailer voice-over world.

When • Opens Friday.
