Football is fun until idiots take it too far

College football rivalries are fun and intense and, yes, sometimes insane. We get it and we can appreciate it.

At least until idiots — be they fans, players or even coaches — diverge too far from fun and intense and too far into insane.

Take Ohio State and Michigan, inarguably one of the best rivalries in college football.

It was kinda sorta funny in an admittedly immature way when, upon arriving at Michigan, coach Brady Hoke made it a point to refer to Ohio State simply as Ohio.

Oh, snap … get it? It's quite the insult to "mix up" the Buckeyes with the somewhat-less-heralded Bobcats.

Of course, it's long since played out and no longer funny.

But now, OSU coach Urban Meyer, who has a history of similar antics (remember "the team down south," Ute fans?), has decided that no one watching his team practice may wear the color blue — the color of Michigan!!! — while doing it.

Take that, Wolverine lovers!

Of course, this rule was not public knowledge, especially to the pair of NFL scouts who were wearing blue shirts at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center this month and were yelled at by players and told by Meyer's staffers to change their shirts.

Not liking your rival is fine. Please, just don't be an idiot about it.
