BYU should be naming captains any day now

Finally, it is game week. As is usually the case, Saturday's BYU vs. Virginia football game in Charlottesville, Va., (1:30 p.m. MDT, ESPNU) can't come soon enough for fans, or for reporters such as myself. It will be nice to finally have a game to write about. School hasn't started yet at BYU, but the Cougars are practicing this afternoon, with media availability around 6:30 p.m. It will be the first opportunity to talk to players and coaches since after last Wednesday's scrimmage. I expect two newsworthy developments out of the Cougars today. First, coach Bronco Mendenhall should be announcing his team captains for the 2013 season today. In past years, the Cougars announced their captains well before game week began. Once, they named them at the end of spring camp. Not sure what the holdup is. Second, the two-deep chart for the Virginia game should be released. Here's my stab at the depth chart, which was published in Sunday's College Football Section. I say "stab" at the chart because there were still a few position battles going on after Wednesday's scrimmage, and also a bit of shuffling with linebacker Spencer Hadley moving inside last week. His move creates a starting role for Alani Fua at outside 'backer although it wasn't clear Wednesday whether Hadley switching to buck linebacker was permanent or not. We will see. Here's a closer look at what was the most difficult position group to predict, the offensive line.
