Snake oil

I am a longtime subscriber to The Salt Lake Tribune and usually read several sections cover to cover — a task that takes considerably less time than it used to.

I'm seeing an increasing number of ads that can be best described as "snake oil" cures for a variety of aliments. The claims made are on the margin of outrageous, despite the very fine print disclaimer that the products or services offered "have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration" and "are not intended to cure, treat or prevent any disease or illness."

Surely your fine publication has some discretion over the types of ads it accepts. I humbly suggest using it.
