A 24-year-old student at Utah State University died Monday after he rode his bicycle into a slackline on campus, according to a press release by USU Emergency Management.
The student, from West Jordan, was riding his bicycle through the grass on Old Main Hill about 5 p.m. when he hit a slackline a group of people had set up between trees on the southwest corner of the hill.
He was taken to Logan Regional Hospital, where he died, officers wrote.
Officers had not released the victim's name, pending family notifications.
"It's just really sad, especially on the first day of classes," said Tim Vitale, spokesman for USU.
