A West Valley City man is accused of choking his girlfriend's 15-year-old daughter because the teen tried to intervene in a fight between the man and her mother.

In charges filed Tuesday, police wrote that the man, 31, became angry when the girl tried to intervene in an argument July 1 at her home near 5000 West and 4100 South. He "got on top of her and strangled her," investigators wrote.

The girl said she could not breathe and things started to "go white" while she was being choked, police wrote.

The man was charged with second-degree felony child abuse with infliction of serious physical injury.
