A Saratoga Springs woman is out of jail following allegations she caused a fatal traffic crash by driving while drunk.
Dawn Grochowski, 52, had been booked into jail on suspicion of driving under the influence Sunday when she drove her jeep off a rocky embankment. The jeep rolled about 50 feet downhill and landed upside down. Passenger Trevor Nielson, 36, died in a hospital the next day.
Grochowski admitted to drinking "a couple of beers" over the previous few hours, said deputy Utah County Attorney Craig Johnson. But her blood-alcohol test remained in the lab on Wednesday, so 4th District Judge David Mortensen found there wasn't enough evidence to hold her in jail, denying Johnson's request for a $100,000 cash-only bail.
Johnson said prosecutors may still file charges if lab results indicate Grochowski was drunk at the time of the crash.
