A female bicyclist injured in a hit-and-run accident last week in Millcreek has been upgraded to serious condition, while police on Saturday continued seeking the driver's identity.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said Friday that "the victim is improving and stable," after having been listed initially as critical after Tuesday's accident.

Meanwhile, detectives were following up on unspecified leads regarding the driver.

Thursday morning, the car believed to have been involved in the accident — an older model gray Acura TL sedan — was found abandoned near 4600 South and Aspen Hollow Lane (3065 East). Hoyal said the vehicle had been reported stolen on Sunday in Salt Lake City.

The hit-and-run driver, and suspected auto thief, remained at large. Police could only say he was about 30, white, and with short, spiky brown hair.

The incident occurred Tuesday at 8:07 a.m. near 3700 South and 2300 East. The 43-year-old victim was riding her bike on 2300 East along the west shoulder when a southbound car drifted off the road and struck her.

The driver then sped southbound, cut through the parking lot of a Fresh Market store and nearly hit another vehicle. The driver was last seen heading north on 2300 East and turning right onto Arnett Drive.
