Englewood, Colo. • Champ Bailey returned to practice on Tuesday, two days before the Denver Broncos host the Baltimore Ravens in the season opener.

The Pro Bowl cornerback wore his helmet, but was limited in individual drills during the session open to the media. Bailey has been out since spraining his left foot on Aug. 17 in a preseason game.

Bailey said the day before that he was "very close" to being ready. He also indicated his playing status remains "up in the air" for Thursday night, since the troublesome ankle still sometimes hampers him when he backpedals or runs side to side.

Chris Harris could slide over and start on the left side if Bailey is unavailable.
