Games of the Week

East at Jordan • This could be the best regular-season game all season, and it's in Week 3. The Leopards, fresh off their stomping of Kahuku (Hawaii), head south to take on the Beetdiggers. Jordan is coming off a trouncing at the hands of Cathedral Catholic and return home. Can East's defense keep Austin Kafentzis in control? This is the one game to catch this preseason.

Timpview at Alta • The Hawks' daunting preseason schedule continues this week, but luckily for them, they rebounded in their Week 2 win over Lone Peak. Chipper Lucero got back on track, and Mack Richards ran all over the Knights' defense. How will a staunch T-bird defense try to keep Richards in check this week?

Bountiful at Logan • Fireworks? Head over to Logan High School. Bountiful's offense will try to keep up with Mike Favero's up-tempo spread offense piloted by Chase Nelson. Grizzlies wide receiver Taylor Comtpon is an exceptional threat, as is Chad Artist. But the Braves are coming off a 42-0 trouncing of Viewmont and have plenty of offensive firepower.

Players to watch

Trent Roberts, sr., QB, Duchesne • It comes down to the arm and legs of Roberts to lead the Eagles to state eminence. Only Carbon stands in the way of Duchesne breaking the all-time consecutive wins record. Roberts has been the steady hand in the Eagles' offense.

T.J. Fehoko, jr., DE, Cottonwood • Fehoko dominated the Logan offensive line last week, racking up 3.5 sacks in the first quarter alone. Fehoko's speed rush no doubt will give the Kearns offensive line fits tonight.

Big number

The number of teams who remain undefeated heading into this weekend's games. As Utah prep czar George Felt notes, seven matchups this weekend pit undefeated teams against one another. They are: Timpanogos at Pleasant Grove, Taylorsville at Davis, Manti at Grantsville, Parowan at Beaver, South Summit at ALA, Juab at Salem Hills and Cyprus vs. Juan Diego at Rio Tinto Stadium.

A Border War

Bingham and Lone Peak, two of the top 5A programs in the Utah, head to Colorado this weekend to take on Valor Christian and Mullen, two of the respected programs from the neighboring state. Bingham and Valor Christian will kickoff at 5:30 p.m. on ROOT Sports. The Miners topped Valor 21-20 in South Jordan last season. Lone Peak will take on Mullen at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo.

Gustin time

Salem Hills quarterback Porter Gustin has his Skyhawks off to a 2-0 start and has been phenomenal in the first two games of the season. Gustin has thrown for 612 yards and eight touchdowns and has a quarterback rating of 130 in wins over Hillcrest and Payson. The Skyhawks host Juab in hopes of moving to 3-0. —
