A former Utah resident was killed Thursday in a hit-and-run accident in a San Francisco park.
Christine Svanemyr, 35, was relaxing in Holly Park with her 11-month-old daughter and her dog when a maintenance vehicle driven by a park employee fatally struck her.
Thomas Burnoski, a 57-year-old San Francisco parks worker, was arrested Friday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run. He allegedly drove off after the accident and was found with the vehicle late Thursday afternoon not far from the park. He has since been placed on administrative leave without pay.
Svanemyr had spent the last 10 years working for a San Francisco-based meditation school called New Ventures West, where she achieved status as a Zen monk. Svanemyr and her husband, the school's communications director, previously lived in Salt Lake City.
