Los Angeles • Southern California coach Lane Kiffin has picked quarterback Cody Kessler to start Saturday against Boston College.

Kessler and Max Wittek have been competing for the starting job since the spring, but neither has been able to take hold of it. Kiffin did not announce his starting quarterback before the first two games of the season, choosing instead to reveal it at game time.

Kessler has started both game for the Trojans (1-1), including last week's ugly 10-7 loss at home to Washington State. The sophomore is 18 for 32 for 136 yards with a touchdown pass and two interceptions. He ran for USC's only touchdown against Hawaii.

Wittek has played in each game, going 8 for 18 for 90 yards with an interception.
